Structured Finance Training Programs

Most finance training teaches concepts. Very little of it teaches a team to produce the specific documents that get a transaction approved: the lender memorandum, the promote waterfall, the sources and uses, the debt sizing model.

Financely trains companies and deal sponsors to structure real transactions to an institutional standard. Three programs, one annual fee of USD 10,000 each, built around the documents and decisions that actually determine whether a deal closes.

Why we train around structures, not theory

A team can understand a market and still be unable to assemble a file a credit committee will approve. Structuring is a separate skill, and it is learned by working through real transaction patterns with the same documents a lender, investor or capital partner will demand.

Every program in this catalogue follows the same method. Participants bring a live or recent transaction. The session works backward from repayment or exit, identifies what the counterparty will secure or price, maps the defects, and produces a document the team would otherwise have built under deadline pressure.

Every program is USD 10,000 per annum, and that covers the whole team. These are corporate capability subscriptions, not per-seat courses. The fee is annual because the market terms, cases and templates are updated each year.

The three programs

Program Who it is for Core structuring output
Commodity trade finance Trading, treasury, credit and origination teams running physical commodity flows Lender-ready transaction memorandum, collateral and control checklist, borrowing base model
Independent sponsor CRE Independent sponsors, emerging developers and deal-by-deal operators using other people's money Promote waterfall model, capital stack framework, JV term sheet and major decision matrix
Solar project finance Developers, IPPs, sponsors and finance teams building or acquiring solar assets Debt sizing and sculpting model, offtake and PPA risk map, tax equity and back-leverage structure

Commodity trade finance covers documentary LCs, SBLCs, borrowing base facilities, pre-export and prepayment finance, inventory and repo structures, and receivables discounting, along with the collateral controls that make each one bankable.

Independent sponsor CRE covers the full capital stack, promote mechanics and hurdles, the fee stack, JV governance and lender interface for deal-by-deal commercial real estate transactions funded with other people's money.

Solar project finance covers non-recourse construction and term debt, DSCR and debt sculpting, PPA and merchant risk, tax equity and credit transferability, and the back-leverage structures used to recycle sponsor equity.

How delivery works

Each program runs for twelve months and combines live cohort sessions, recorded modules, a document library and quarterly case workshops. The structure is deliberately repetitive. Structuring is a habit, and habits form through application to the participant's own transactions rather than through one-off attendance.

Live cohort sessions. Structured teaching sessions run through the year, with time reserved for participants' own live or recent deals.

Document and model library. Each program ships with the templates used in the sessions, so teams are not rebuilding memoranda, models and checklists from scratch.

Quarterly case workshops. Each quarter focuses on a different structure within that program's asset class, drawn from real transaction patterns rather than textbook examples.

Annual renewal. Market terms and counterparty appetite move. The curriculum is updated each year, and new joiners enter the program rather than waiting for a public course date.

Pricing and what the annual fee covers

Item Detail
Fee USD 10,000 per annum, per program
Coverage The whole team, not a per-seat licence
Included Live cohort sessions, recorded modules, document and model library, quarterly case workshops
Term Twelve months from enrolment, renewable annually
Excluded Transaction advisory, legal fees, and any third-party diligence costs on live deals

Training and advisory are separate services. The programs teach a team to structure and document its own transactions. Where a company needs a facility structured and placed, that is a mandate rather than a training engagement, and the two are scoped independently.

Which program fits which team

The programs are separated by asset class, not by seniority. Teams that originate and fund physical commodity flows belong in the commodity trade finance program. Sponsors funding individual real estate assets with outside capital belong in the independent sponsor program. Developers, independent power producers and sponsors of solar assets belong in the project finance program.

Where a company operates across more than one asset class, teams are enrolled program by program. There is no blended option, because the documents, counterparties and risk allocations differ too much between them for a combined curriculum to produce anything usable.

Final thoughts

The test of any finance training is whether the team's next submission is stronger than its last. Each of these programs is built so that the output of a session is a document that would otherwise have been produced under time pressure on a live deal, and every case is drawn from structures that reach real credit committees, capital partners and lenders.

For a company or sponsor deciding where to start, the practical question is which transaction type is currently stalling. That is the program to enrol in first.

Frequently asked questions

How much does each training program cost?

Each program is USD 10,000 per annum. That covers the whole team for twelve months, including live cohort sessions, recorded modules, the document and model library, and quarterly case workshops. It is a corporate capability subscription rather than a per-seat course fee.

Can a team enrol in more than one program?

Yes. The programs are separated by asset class, so teams operating across commodity trade, real estate and solar are enrolled program by program. There is no blended option because the documents, counterparties and risk allocations differ materially between them.

Is this training or advisory?

Training. The programs teach a team to structure and document its own transactions, using its own live or recent deals as working cases. Where a company needs a facility structured and placed with lenders or investors, that is scoped as a separate advisory mandate.

What happens at renewal?

The curriculum, cases and templates are updated each year to reflect current market terms and counterparty appetite. Renewal also covers new team members, who enter the program immediately rather than waiting for a public course date.
