Sight Payment Letter of Credit Advisory
A sight payment letter of credit should lead to payment after compliant document presentation.
Banks do not pay based on shipment, contracts, or intent. They pay documents.
We review the LC and documentary package before presentation so the issuing bank has no technical grounds to refuse under UCP 600.
What A Sight LC Actually Is
A sight payment letter of credit is a documentary credit governed by UCP 600 in which the issuing bank honors a compliant presentation without a maturity period. The bank examines documents only. It does not verify goods, quality, or commercial disputes.
Most refusals occur because the LC terms and the commercial contract were drafted separately.
The exporter ships correctly but presents documents incorrectly.
